Xiertala Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is in the borehole ZK105, about 40 km east of Hailar City, Inner Mongolia. It was named by the No. 6 Geological Party of Heilongjiang in 1976.
Lithology and Thickness
Limestone, Claystone and Sandstone. A suite of marine carbonate and clastic rocks. The Bottom is of gray-white to purple marbleized limestone; containing brachiopods and corals; the lower and middle parts consist of black shale, gray-black micritic limestone, calcareous sandstone and siltstone interbeds; the upper part consists of gray calcareous grit, fine-grained sandstone, siltstone, etc. intercalated with limestone. Exposed thickness 211 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Conformable contact with the underlying Moergenhe Fm volcaniclastics
Upper contact
Unknown: The top is covered by Quaternary stratum in type section. Regionally, the next higher unit is the Xiertala Fm limestone.
Regional extent
Distributed in such areas as the Xiertala Fe-Zn mining district, southern Ewenki Autonomous Banner, Wunuer of Yakeshi City, Lingbei Railway Station and Shangkuli of the Ergun Right Banner.

Fossils
Brachiopod Megachonetes-Davidsonia assemblage, including Fluctuaria undata, Brachythyris cf. ovalis, Syringothyris cf. cuspidata, Neospirifen liangchouensis, Striatifera aff. striata, Linoproductus tenuistriatus, etc. Corals Zaphrentites sp., Zaphrentoides sp., Hexaphyllia sp., Rotiphyllum sp., etc.
